Challenge.
Glotman Simpson has a rich history in the city of Vancouver, providing critical structural engineering for some of Vancouver’s most iconic buildings. For 60 years they have been a key player in defining Vancouver’s skyline, and now many other cities around the world. They are known for their innovation and uncompromising quality within the industry, but often engineers get overshadowed by the stars of iconic buildings: architects. So for their 60th anniversary, they wanted to take a rare moment to lay claim to their equally iconic work, as well as tell their lesser-known history of being a humble family-owned business.
Solution.
We decided to tell the story of the unsung hero engineers through the creative lens of light and projection. Themes that encapsulated the idea of revealing a humble family-business story, but also projecting a single vision through the decades from grandfather to father to grandson. We started by building a 60th anniversary brand that was a natural extension of their logo, inverting structural elements in order to create a unique 60th logo. We then took that brand and extended it into social media templates that made posting milestones, elevating staff, and telling their story easily packaged and clearly branded. We then produced a video that used a unique concept of projections—a way for our production team to show historic imagery in camera, but also use light in interesting ways. And best of all we did it in our new state-of-the-art-studio. All the pieces needed to do in camera lighting effects and eye-catching projection effects were at our disposal. And with these tools we were able to do their beautiful family-business story justice and project their vision for the future to the world.

True Branded Extension
A full logo exploration was completed to preserve the existing logo, but create a natural extension of it to convey 60 years of Glotman Simpson.
