Call us biased—we’re an agency for the industrial sector after all—but we’re far from alone when we say this industry does fascinating work. The truth is, much of this remarkable work happens behind the scenes: complex, essential labour that rarely gets the spotlight but keeps everything moving forward. From subsurface utilities and transportation infrastructure to hoarding walls, mechanical rooms, and geotechnical systems, most industrial work happens behind the scenes. At Site, we use video to tell powerful stories from the industrial sector and pull back the curtain to show not only what work is being done, but also who is doing it, and why. By bringing these stories to life visually, companies can reach new clients, attract new talent, and build trust and connection with their audience.

Site’s production team spends a lot of time in the field capturing this footage. In 2024 alone, we did an astounding 400 field shoots. So, today, we’re swapping someone else’s story for our own, and showing the work behind the work with Site’s production team.

A Diverse Team. A Specialized Crew.

Every member of our production team brings at least five years' experience in video and photography. Our videographers come from diverse backgrounds, including film school graduates, studio photographers, former video production company owners, and contributors to major commercial productions.

Recently, two of our team members completed their Fall Protection, Scissor Lift, and Boom Lift courses, enabling them to safely shoot from heights of up to 45 feet. Meanwhile, some of our team prefer to keep their boots on the ground, mastering the art of aerial cinematography through drones. Others focus on composition or technical expertise, keeping us outfitted with the latest gear, software, and post-production tools. Together, they form a team that blends creative vision with technical precision.

How We Get It Done.

Capturing footage on live job sites requires meticulous planning and coordination. Our videographers have to stay flexible to meet unique client needs and changing conditions. To help ensure a successful shoot, our production team works with the project manager on pre-shoot planning to understand the objectives, messaging, deliverables, and scope of work.

On shoot day, the gear gets loaded into a Site SUV—or onto a plane, depending on the destination. In the past year alone, our team travelled across Canada and the U.S., from the Northwest Territories to Ghana. Once they arrive on-site, they complete a safety orientation and assess the location, either shooting together or splitting up depending on the layout and activity. If a shot isn’t possible during active work, they’ll pull team members aside to stage it safely and effectively.

Clear briefs and shot lists from the project manager are key to a successful shoot, as is communication with the site crew to avoid disruptions. Safety is always the top priority—our team wears full PPE, maintains strong situational awareness, and uses radios to stay connected when spread across large or complex sites. In this environment, 80% of the job comes down to problem-solving, from unpredictable site conditions to shifting light and schedules. Whether it's navigating logistics or adjusting for the moving sun, adaptability is crucial.

The Art of Interviewing.

There’s an obvious art to video production, but at Site, where much of our work is interview-based, interpersonal skills are just as important. We work with actors, but most of our subjects are company owners, team leaders, and employees—people who are used to doing the work, which means they’re not always used to being in front of the camera.

Our interviewees work from a set of pre-approved questions, scout the best spot, set up lights and audio, and help the interviewee feel at ease in front of the camera. That process begins by warming up the subject with a casual conversation to build rapport before diving into the questions. Part of the team’s job is to follow the natural flow of conversation and know when to go off-script to uncover those golden nuggets of insight that only present themselves in the moment.

Field-Tested. Team-Driven.

Camaraderie is at the core of our production crew’s success. Our team shares in each other’s wins, supports one another, and brings out the best in each other, collaborating creatively and constantly trading ideas to elevate the work. On continually changing construction sites, they’re quick to pivot, spotting creative opportunities on the fly.

Everyone’s deeply invested in the craft, passionate about capturing strong visuals, and eager to help each other grow—whether it’s suggesting a new angle, refining a technique, or stepping in when someone needs backup. That sense of camaraderie and support makes the long plane rides and shoot days more enjoyable—and the finished product even better.

Tools of the Trade.

Besides the diverse, exciting projects and good vibes, our team enjoys working with lots of fancy equipment, designed to handle the demands of industrial and construction environments. They shoot with high-end cameras capable of capturing stunning 6K RAW footage, ensuring every detail is crisp and editable to the highest standard. For aerial cinematography, they operate an advanced drone system that requires a three-person crew—one to pilot, one to control the gimbal, and one to manage focus, allowing for precise, cinematic movement from above.

Time-lapse cameras powered by solar panels document long-term projects over months or even years, automatically uploading images to the cloud for seamless progress tracking. To maintain smooth, professional footage on the ground, the team relies on stabilization tools like gimbals and Easy Rig backpacks, which reduce shake and distribute weight during long shoots. Altogether, their gear is cutting-edge and purpose-built for the complexity and scale of the work they capture.

Stories with Impact.

What sets Site’s production team apart is more than raw talent and high-end gear; it’s the way they work. Their extensive travel, close camaraderie, and well-rounded skill set allow them to capture industrial stories in environments that are anything but predictable. Whether they’re 45 feet in the air on a lift, on a fast-moving boat, or staging a time-lapse to run for years, they bring creativity and professionalism to every shoot. It’s about getting the shot, but it’s also about telling the story right. And in the industrial sector, those stories deserve to be told.
